“The automated keratocyte counting algorithmn [Patel et al. 2001, 1999] … using the AnalyzeAVW software package [Hanson et al. 1997, Robb and Hanson 1990] incorporated a number of filtering [Jain 1990], histogram expansion [Jain 1990], and morphology operations [Hohne and Robb 1992] to produce a binary, segmented image of objects from a single frame in a confocal scan of the human cornea.”
